   I am not sure. The Arkansas law for emancipation of juveniles says you must be 17, but there’s another law that seems to apply to 16 year olds. I think you ought to ask a real lawyer.

   You might ask the Job Corps personnel if they can recommend a legal counselor who have worked with this issue in the past. If they can’t, try calling Community Counseling Services (501-624-7111). They’re just off Ouachita near Dairy Queen. They aren’t legal counselors but I’ve worked with three of their counselors and they’re just good folks who know the Hot Springs community and might hook you up with someone who can help.

   If you want to do some research online, these are a couple of Arkansas codes that seem to apply, but I’m not sure which of them is most current OR applicable:
   9-27-362. Emancipation of juveniles (must be 17)
   9-26-104. Removal of disability of a minor (16 and up but may only apply to the right to do business)

   It will depend on your state, but most states do recognize the right of emancipation for teens 16 and over. You must go to court to get it approved. Good Luck
