My fiance and I are getting married in November. Our income isn’t a fortune and can’t afford a lot of vacation for the honeymoon. The wedding is on a Saturday and we have taken that Mon off. We live in OKC, Oklahoma. We are considering driving to Hot Springs, AR, Tulsa, OK, or Dallas, TX for a brief escape from life rather than a traditional honeymoon. Anyone able to recommend things to do, see, or places to stay in any of those places?
We will drive after the wedding on Sat and stay till Monday evening.
Does anyone have any suggestions of where to go (like bed and breakfasts) that is close to OKC that would be great for a wedding escape?
Just for reference Dallas and Tulsa are both 2 to 2.5 hours from OKC. Hot Springs is 5.5 hours away. We’ll be leaving the reception at around 5pm – ish. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. We want to be able to make it to the place that Saturday so we can enjoy our two days fully. No one night stops in between.
Please remember this is in November. The theme parks will be closed and camping is pretty much out of the question due to weather. We will eventually take a proper honeymoon. We are thinking sometime around May when vacation is more readily available at our jobs (Our wedding is on Thanksgiving weekend so neither of us have much of an option about how much vacation our companies are willing to grant us) We aren’t taking our honeymoon, we are taking a break from OKC. Someplace quick, refreshing, and different.
I’ve been to Hot Springs and I loved it! It’s been years though so I can’t recommend anything sorry.

Goodnight. Are you kidding me? Hot Springs, AK? Dallas? Tulsa? Why not visit a screen door factory in Delaware? Man, I know cheap but you guys need to save some dough and go to the Bahamas or sumpin sumpin.

If you go to Dallas then do Six Flags and the Zoo. If you go to Tulsa then I prefer camping and the lake area. If you to AR you might consider driving to Missouri instead and go to the Silver Dollar City instead and spending time camping at the lake down there.

Go wherever there is a spa included (after the wedding a massage is great!) also try to find a place with a hot tub in the room…then get some champagne…some bubbles and enjoy yourself until Monday! Let’s face it the honeymoon isn’t traditionally for sightseeing is it…so just have a great time wherever you end up!

Rent a cabin near a lake. It will be romantic and beautiful. Missouri is close, may I recommend the Lake of the Ozarks, they have beautiful lake site condos and winter prices are cheap. On a budget? Go to the Lake of the Ozarks website and some places will give you coupons for entertaiment, some others will give you freebies if you sit in one of their “new condos” showcase presentations.
Branson Missouri is great too. May I recommend the Honeymoon suite in the Radison, it has a great jacussi and free breakfast and hors d’orves for teh couple in the exclusve 10th floor. It will run for about 180 dollars and is WELL worth it. Go to the Radisson website and enquire about romance packages in Branson. Also , ther are great entertaiment and resturants in the area, and a great outlet mall. It’s quiet, clean and romantic and is only about 5 hours away from you.
Congratulations and good luck

There’s a lot to do in Dallas. You guys could find a nice hotel and stay in the city. You can visit the Dallas Arboretum (its beautiful) or the Aquarium. There are a lot of places around town to eat and have a good time. You can go to Six Flags, as they’re usually still open then. I know they do a Holiday in the Park thing and that might be an option if it’s your thing. It wouldnt be mine though. I understand saving money too. There is an art museum here, and if you like culture you’d love it. There are always sporting events as well.

I just got married in December this last year and I live Tulsa and got married in Claremore Oklahoma. My husband and I went off to Jasper, Arkansa in a cabin by the Buffalo National River. We didn’t have much of vacation built up from our office either and we left right after the honeymoon and came back on that Wednesday. We wanted to go somewhere small b/c we didn’t want to be pressured in going somewhere big like a cruise because we didnt have much time and it being close to Christmas we had spent someof our money on gifts.
So, having a small inexpensive honeymoon and then going on something a lil bit bigger the next year, then go anddo what we did.
Good luck.. Congrats too!!!!

search the area for a great bed & breakfast. they are usually adorable and affordable. the food is usually homemade and delicious. you don’t have much time, and you will most likely be staying in most of the trip anyway. so make sure the place you will sleep is nice.
go for walks and do romantic and relaxing things. they are inherently cheap.
good luck!

Hot Springs is awesome. There are several beautiful hotels there, most of them equipped with spas right there. It’s a great city with a rich history. Definitely would choose to go there. Here’s a GREAT site:
