Soooo, I’m only in the 8th grade, but yes I am already considering college plans. I’ve always been a straight-A student, my GPA is about 3.8. I live in Arkansas, so I plan on attending the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts in Hot Springs. It’s a residential high school for academically advanced juniors and seniors. There are only 9 or so schools of its type in the U.S. Students there get LOADS of scholarships. I’m going to need a scholarship if I want to go to a good college. I’m in the middle-class region..I’m not poor, but I’m not rich. So I’ll want to look for a college that gives good financial aid.
I’m most interested in art. Music, mainly. Of the visual arts, I like photography and pencil drawing the most(I’m not the best painter). I am learning French and plan to take German classes at ASMSA. I want to major in fine arts, preferably music(theory of, physics of, sciences of). I’m also a pretty good writer. I read a lot, I write a lot. Literature and creative writing will be something I’ll be interested in majoring in. I’m not very good at poetry but would like to become a music journalist after college. For AP magazine or Fuse TV or something. I play the guitar, have been for four years and don’t plan on stopping. I’m learning the keyboard, too. Music is my passion.
Also, I’d like to minor in psychology and philosophy. I’m a very deep thinker and I have a serious interest in the human mind.(Not to the point where I’ll become a psychologist, though.) I believe that if I continue writing, psychology and philosophy will help that too. In addition to the fact they’re just interesting:)
Colleges I’m considering right now are U of Cal at Berkeley, Duke University, Brown, and University of South Carolina.
I don’t want to go to an Arkansas school. I want to get as far away from here as possible. After I graduate college, I want to live in Berkeley California, Charleston South Carolina, or quite possibly moving out of the country, to live in southern England, or Ireland, or Holland. So, does anyone have any suggestions about those schools, their financial aid, or any other schools that have good fine and language art departments? Thank you for reading my boring question(:
8th grade doesn’t matter at all, almost everyone gets straight A’s
keep getting those A’s if you want to go to uc berkeley
i got in uc berkeley with 3.7 unweighted gpa (4.6 weighted) and 2240 on SAT

I live in NC and we have a similar school called North Carolina School of Science and Math. All the people I know who want to go there like the idea of going to UNC Chapel Hill. I personally don’t plan on going to the boarding school but I DO want to go to UNC Chapel Hill.
Chapel Hill has scholarships. And they have a great Mass Communications program and cool student-run radio station. It is hard to get in out of state but you seem to like the idea of living in the Carolinas and UNCCH is the best NC college in my opinion (and trust me I’ve paid attention to this a lot and I’ve seen the campus). It is more expensive out of state but way less expensive than Duke.
To sum it up, Mass Communications and/or Journalism is your best bet if you want to seriously pursue music journalism. But you have a lot of time in high school to decide where you want to go and what you want to major in. Take a psych class in high school.
Oh, and don’t go to college outside the country because it won’t help you get jobs unless you are studying language or culture, study abroad instead. Also, music journalists need to get into the “scene” and you can’t do that overseas unless you want to be a journalist overseas.
My life sounds a lot little like a parallel of yours. I want to write for AP and I want to travel a lot. I play guitar and just got a keyboard. Weird weird weird.

Let’s deal with reality first. You need to get rid of the idea that your question is boring. In other words, get a grip on reality and realize you are good stuff, you have a right to ask your questions and get good answers. Now, to your question.
I’d encourage you to contact the admissions offices of the school in which you think you’ll be interested, ask for a catalog or download one, and ask about financial aid forms which won’t do you much good this far in advance. You will however, be interested in their offerings in the fine arts. Your desire to get away from Arkansas is understandable but not all that logical as fine educations can be obtained at schools there. Keep asking and examining the fine arts offerings at school in which you might be interested. You are doing well and exhibiting good thinking. Keep it up.
