If you go to Memphis, you’ll get to see Graceland. And you could get there in an hour, or less. No hotel, or anything. Plus some good barbeque, and some Blues.

Hot Springs would be closer, so you would save on gasoline. I’m not a fan of Gatlinburg. It is too “touristy” for my tastes. Just a long stretch of tacky souvenir shops and way too many people and cars. I’ve not been to Hot Springs, but I would choose the unknown over Gatlinburg any day.
Maybe check out http://www.tripadvisor.com for reviews on what there is to do and see in each.

I’d say Hot Springs. Ok, I’m a little biased. lol I’ve lived in Hot Springs for nearly 15 years now. We have Magic Springs, several lakes with free access, boat and jet ski rentals, TONS of restaurants lol. Everyone seems to really like the downtown area too. It’s full of artsy shops, bistros, fine and casual dining, theater, and the usual tourist shops. Check out the Arlington Hotel’s restaurant for buffet. It’s not your usual. Oh, and I believe there’s a new scooter rental place down Hwy 7 South (Central Ave).
There is no comparison with prices. Hot Springs is about as good as it gets. Your money will really stretch here.
