Would my father be just in seeking a divorce?

My father married this woman under the condition that they move to a warmer climate once he retires. He hates the city and has always been a country boy. He has his eye on Hot Springs, Arkansas. Well, Dad has been retired for nearly a year, but his wife keeps finding excuses for not moving away with him, all excuses that he is able to respond well too. When she says she wants to keep her job, he says that they need nurses in Arkansas. When she says she wants to take care of her grandchildren, he says that they have loving parents already. When she says that she would miss her children, he assures her that they can have a guest room for when they (and I) visit. When she says that there is nothing to do there, he says that all she ever does here is go to work, then church, then back home. Besides, he assures her, she would only be a few hours away from Dallas, St. Louis, and New Orleans. He is becoming aggrevated because he says that she never made plans for the move, and it seems that she thinks that she can talk him out of changing his mind. Dad says that, when he prepared for retirement 30 years ago, it was always his wish to move to a warmer part of the country, and he insists on moving–even without her. Would my father be just in divorcing her? What can be done to prevent this from happening?

PS: His wife is not my mother.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can locate a member of the Hot Springs Country Club?

I am from south Louisiana and will be getting married in Hot Springs, AR next summer (my family is from LA, my future husband’s family is from MO, and we decided to meet in the middle for the wedding). We would both really like to have our reception at the Hot Springs Country Club, but you must know a member of the club to use their facility. Neither of us nor our families know anyone in the Hot Springs area. If anyone knows a member personally who might vouch for us or has a suggestion for locating a member, I would greatly appreciate the information. Thanks!!!

Why does Arkansas get such a bad rep? What did it ever do?

I don’t live there, but I live in Kentucky. I’ve been to AR three times and, I’ll admit, the state didn’t overly impress me. But, two times I just drove through but stopped at a hotel and the occasional convenience store. East of Little Rock is very boring with the Mississippi Delta lands, but west of L.R. is actually quite pretty, with the piney woods and gently rolling hills. Many of today’s millionaires (some of which are actually self-made) live there; one of the most famous national parks, Hot Springs, is there; one of the top 25 fastest-growing metro areas in the country is Northwest Arkansas; Governor Huckabee’s office has undertaken an aggressive TV campaign to promote economic development, some of the commercials of which have been seen on Fox News.

To Arkansans: What is great about your state, and what you like or dislike about it? I don’t want to have a “full opinion” about AR until I visit more, see more attractions, and get to know more people from there. Thanks!
